In related news, as with the last time that fascism emerged out of economic depression, we once again find the Japanese. I just read an article in the Herald Tribune which is bizarrely not available anywhere online; so I will summarize and type in a few quotes here. The title is “Venting frustration in Japan,” and it chronicles the rise of new extreme right groups in Japan called the ‘Net right’ (for the fact that they organize via the internet) and that, unlike the Old Right groups, have stepped up personal confrontations in a manner that is unheard of in Japan. From the article:
“the largest group appears to be the cumbersomely named Citizens Group That Will Not Forgive Special Privileges for Koreans in Japan, known here by its Japanese abbreviation, the Zaitokukai, which has about 9,000 members.”
One could also perhaps read the American version as “Citizens Group That Will Not Forgive Special Privileges for Mexicans, Blacks or Gays in America.”
The far right Japanese groups meet online and then hold noisy demonstrations in meat space; which often include confronting Korean or Phillipine school children, taunting them to go home. More:
“Since first appearing last year, these protests have aimed at not just Japan’s half-million ethnic Koreans but also Chinese and other Asian workers, Christian churchgoers and even Westerners in Halloween costumes. MOSCOW – Scores of bare-chested skinheads attacked a crowd of about 3,000 people at a rock concert in central Russia on Sunday, beating them with clubs, media reports said.
Dozens of people were left bloodied and dazed in the attack, television and news agencies reported, and state news channel Rossiya-24 said a 14-year-old girl was killed at the concert in Miass, 900 miles (1,400 kilometers) east of Moscow.
Fourteen ambulances were called to the scene, the channel said, citing witness accounts. The motive for the attack was not known, and authorities couldn’t be reached for comment. The ITAR-Tass agency said local police had refused comment.
Many of Russia’s top rock acts were attending the “Tornado” rock festival, the agency said.
Russia has an ingrained neo-Nazi skinhead movement. Attacks on dark-skinned foreigners in Moscow and St. Petersburg have been relatively common in recent years. The January 2009 murder of lawyer Stanislav Markelov and journalist Anastasiya Baburova prompted a Kremlin crackdown on ultranationalists, who were blamed for the killings.
In April, a Moscow court banned the far-right Slavic Union, whose Russian acronym SS intentionally mimicked that used by the Nazis’ infamous paramilitary. The group was declared extremist and shut down. Then the group’s leader, Dmitry Demushkin, told The Associated Press it tried to promote its far-right agenda legally and warned that the ban would enrage and embolden Russia’s most radical ultranationalists.
Russia’s ultranationalist movement is so deeply embedded in the country’s culture that militant groups have sprouted up around Russia to fight it. Anti-racist groups regularly spearhead attacks on ultranationalists, sparking revenge assaults in an intensifying clash of ideologies.
Neo-Nazi and other ultranationalist groups mushroomed in Russia after the 1991 Soviet collapse. The influx of immigrant workers and two wars with Chechen separatists triggered xenophobia and a surge in hate crimes.
Racially motivated attacks, often targeting people from Caucasus and Central Asia, peaked in 2008, when 110 were killed and 487 wounded, an independent watchdog, Sova, said. The Moscow Bureau for Human Rights estimated that some 70,000 neo-Nazis were active in Russia — compared with a just few thousand in the early 1990s.

I found this interesting. It’s easy to bash Glenn Beck and Fox news, because they thoroughly deserve it. But, to bash every person that flips on Glenn’s show and watches is ignorant and narrow minded. Glenn is a imbecile for sure, but I don’t see anyone else on the mainstream news “teaching” people about the economy ,the FED, and what’s wrong with Wall Street except for Beck and Raitgan.
Here’s a post from someone who was at Beck’s rally:
“Late last night around 2am I decided I wanted to go to the rally. I woke up, took the bus to the metro station. The two lines going to the ticket machines stretched about 2-3 blocks each. That was around 10am when the rally started! It began moving swiftly as the workers decided to let everyone in for free. The subways were packed. No one was able to move anywhere and the temperatures inside and out were around 85-90 degrees and humid.
Finally arriving near the Lincoln Memorial I biked up to a CVS and bought a large white poster and sharpie.
Making my way over to the Lincoln Memorial the first site and sound was a small group of socialists singing some song about “workers of the world uniting”. HA. About 20 yards after that I found a group of kids handing out libetarian literature and bumper stickers!
The Memorial was packed to the brim. Someone was saying CSPAN said there was over 1 million people. I wouldn’t even know how to estimate, but I would say there was anywhere from 300k to 600k people.
After making an easy decision to not torture myself by listening to Beck and Palin, I decided to post up under a tree along a major entrance and exist route (23rd street). Easily tens of thousands of people crossed this path over the course of a few hours. I made a nice sign that said “RON PAUL 2012″ and sat down for about 4 or 5 hours.
I am telling you, people LOVE Ron Paul. It seemed like every other person was giving me the thumbs up and saying go Ron Paul, or go Rand Paul. Many, many, many people knew who he was, and many told me they voted for him and/or WILL vote for him in 2012 if he runs. It was an amazing experience. Young people, old people, men, women, some people just running and biking not even apart of the rally, black, hispanic, white, families, even children people told me they adored him as a conservative and consistent congressman. I had person after person come up to me to shake my hand and tell me to stay strong and thanked me for helping to spread the message.
Even more people told me they backed Rand Paul. Some were saying how they want Rand to run for president once he gets some Senate experience.
Hardly anyone was negative. I had only three people say they supported Palin, but two of the three said they want to see a Palin/Ron ticket or a Ron/Palin ticket. A few people said they didn’t want Ron to split the vote. Only about two people said that Ron should “start supporting the military” or that he was anti-American. Only one complained about his stance on the mosque.
The good news is people are very very open to Ron and his message of liberty. However, a lot of people are not knowledgeable on where he stands on some issues. Listening to people pass by, they thought Ron Paul was a libertarian that was pro-choice and supported amnesty. I tried to clarify his position to as many people as possible.
The only thing that bothered me apart from Beck speaking was the evangelicals. There was a black lady who was yelling at another man for supporting Obama. I thought, hell yeah, the Tea Party is in fact quite diverse. Well..it turns out after she was interviewed by some Christian/Theocrat station that she was just spewing Christian garbage. Now, I am Christian myself but these people are literally nuts. I am sure you know what I am talking about. If I can find the clips I’ll definitely post it.
Anyways, I am definitely down to go again and do it better next time. I have my plan. There were also Gary Johnson supporters there handing out literature. I’m still for Ron Paul though.”

Since I live in the U.S., I have come to believe that what I see on TV is a lie, a carefully crafted stage production intended to give the illusion of a much more conservative country than actually exists. The Tea Party “movement” and the “protests” they’ve been able to muster are miniscule compared to the anti-Iraq war protests, which received little or no press coverage. The Tea Party just seems like a big deal because of the amount of coverage.
One of the pieces I’m working is entitled “High Frequency Trading in the Secondary Marketplace of Ideas (the Mainstream Media)” and analogizes media manipulation of truth discovery to how HFT on the secondary equity markets manipulates price discovery. I only pay attention to the mainstream media to identify “trading” patterns in ideas.
Yves had a post the other day about discussing “Regime Change” with friends in NYC, and I think those discussions were a result of HFT in ideas.

You won’t convince people who believe that fascism is a left-wing liberal phenomenon that fascism is and always was a right-wing phenomenon, even though that’s the truth of the matter.
Hayek and Mises were among the first to argue that fascism is a form of socialism, but they did so within the individualism versus collectivism dialectic. If you review their complete analysis of fascism, you’ll see that they believed fascism was also anti-liberal, anti-intellectual and nationalistic (all hallmarks of the right wing).
What people like Jonah Goldberg and Glenn Beck have done is start with Hayek’s and Mises’ conclusion that fascism is socialism, but they’ve purged any reference to the fact that, if you accept fascism as socialism, it is a distinctly right wing flavor of it. Socialism is simply equated with left wing liberals without any serious analysis of history.
So, now we have Glenn Beck rousing the nationalism of people who want their country back from the liberals and intelletuals who supposedly stole it. I guess the Tea Baggers are really socialist liberals because they seem hell-bent on engaging in fascism.
I’m convinced the far right in the US would pass a Uganda type bill to attack gays if they could.

Hopefully people realize that if a Palin or Beck or Obama or Kennedy start directing a grass roots movement, its probably not grass roots anymore.
What we have in America, in my opinion, is vocal & extreme, left / right groups and a large silent or quiet (not for long) middle. But it’s becoming increasingly dangerous to continue to view this situation as a simplistic left / right paradigm. As both become more extreme in their ideology, they will meet. In fact they have already met … i.e. corporatism
The best way to control any situation is to control both sides. The rest is left / right theater.
I prefer to look at the current situation in America as those who have power and those that do not. It helps me to clarify my thinking and objectives.

In regards to people rising up he said we are living in a culture that is more like the 30′s than the 60′s and that the American People will eventually rise up and get the socialist reforms they got in the 30′s.
He may be correct, I don’t see a 60′s movement developing because there’s no draft and as long as the upper middle-class doesn’t have to go to war it’s not an issue most Americans think about.
but I had to think about his idea that this is more like the 30′s….
during the 30′s we weren’t at war like we are today, what would be equally compelling to distinguish 2010s with the 1930s….
so I thought and thought and thought and I decided to substitute the war on terror – the long war – with the dust bowl.
I also think the sooner the dollar collapses the sooner we’ll have reforms.
Which makes me wonder…. if we want to hasten this thing perhaps we should spend spend spend, cause I gotta tell ya every time I save dollars I keep losing money.

Here’s part of the problem (I’m in the last category) -
50% of adults work for government at a local, county, state or federal level, or for a corporation that has a contract with the federal government. None will bite the hand that feeds them.
10% are unemployed and will not bite the hand that feeds them.
15% are on welfare and will never ever bite the hand that feeds them.
20% are getting or within a few years be getting social security and will never bite the hand that feeds them.
That leaves 5% that are not being fed by government and are used to feed the other 95%. However, due to social norms and media spin along with the fear that it would only get worse if they do rise up against government, they too will never revolt against government. The only chance for these 5% to become unburdened, is for a worldwide economic collapse in which the other 95% die off and loose their ability to control a system that funds their free ride on the back of the few.

I noticed something interesting this week…
All of the sudden a number of the-stimulus-is-working talking heads are going on and on about those who are predicting a collapse or those wanting states to secede; which btw, is tough to find unless you’re actually looking for that.
There’s been no ramping-up on either of those topics – nothing out of the ordinary – so why all of the sudden are these pundits bringing this up, taking notice and dismissing both with sure intensity?

An article in the New Yorker and a book that’s due out this fall do a great job at illuminating these manipulators, but Obama has not made his case to the American people and I’m afraid its because he is a globalist and neoliberal too.
The patchwork stimulus package cannot work in a free market atmosphere where tax-payer money is going to foreign interests and we the people are getting frustrated as we watch our leadership make all the wrong assessments and choices.

Yes they do because they are them self socialists and the socialists have been trying to separate them self from national socialism and fascism ever sins WW2. If an ideology’s main goal is to socialize either the people and/or the private company’s I say they belong to the left wing. Beck has substantially changed his tune over the last year, and while he does say lots of stupid things, he gives air to people like Ron Paul and Tom Woods on his show more often (Just a couple years ago he called Paul supporters homegrown terrorists). Beck is a showman, not a klansman; your comparison is a bridge too far.

Friend’s grandmother left Japan because she was half white. When she was growing up she was given a special name for being “mixed” and was often taunted. She eventually killed her self because of the shame.
Even today when Japanese men come to visit the US and stay at my friend’s home they have this strange attitude about women; they expect them, even their host, to clean up their messes and take care of them like a mother would a baby. I wouldn’t have believed it unless I saw it myself.
