If this project continues to attract interest the agenda attached; Greenpeace creates a facebook competitor that runs on Icelandic geo-thermal energy, we can say that market dynamics and the market-making technology of PMF – a mimic of salient aspects found in other free market systems around the world – have the potential to be spun on their axis and put into the service of positive values instead of the financial holocaust on offer from Wall. St. and Washington. It is not inevitable that Wall St. banks should rocket the wealth and income gap and put millions of Americans into concentrations camps. There are some moves (and movies) left to be played. Iceland is ready to play. I suspect environmental groups can be persuaded to rally their troops. The market is poised and the geo-thermal energy is unlimited.

Of course, half of the American population would man the barricades to prevent their favored banking oligarchs from ever having to compete.

Monopolies, lack of competition drive US health care costs soaring despite deflation

The pricing power of local hospital systems has received scant attention in the search for answers to the nation’s rising medical costs, according to Alain Enthoven, an economist at Stanford University. In 2009, as consumer prices fell for the first time in 54 years, the U.S. health care bill rose by 5.7 percent to $2.47 trillion, a record 17.3 percent of the economy.

“Provider consolidation is driving up health care costs,” said Enthoven. “We need effective antitrust enforcement, and we haven’t had that for some time.”

Stacy Summary: We’re used to the US meddling in Latin America, ex-Soviet states, Africa and the Middle East, but this bit in Scahill’s latest Nation article caught my attention: The Nation has learned from well-placed special operations sources that among the countries where elite special forces teams working for the Joint Special Operations Command have been deployed under the Obama administration are: Iran, Georgia, Ukraine, Bolivia, Paraguay, Ecuador, Peru, Yemen, Pakistan (including in Balochistan) and the Philippines. These teams have also at times deployed in Turkey, Belgium, France and Spain.
