Scientists are often guided by the “precautionary principle”. They say what does it matter if CO2 is not a problem since it would be better to wean ourselves from fossil fuels anyway? Thus they accept a “convenient lie”. The problem is that scientists are most often not economists and have little idea of the economic destruction their policies would cause.
People really need to chill. Panic is a last ditch survival mechanism. It should not be our first choice.

There is no proof but proof may come when it is too late. Most of the research indicates that there is climate change caused by humans burning fossil fuels. However climate science cannot prove this because climate is a complex field. Therefore science will probably not come up with a definite answer any time soon regarding the cause and extent of climate change. Nevertheless there are strong indications that the climate is changing and the most likely cause is human activity.

Mankind is a subset of the environment. In the same way that the economy is a subset of the ecology. We benefit (take) from it and we adapt (change) it to the form we desire. What is good for us isn’t always what’s good for the planet.
In some ways we are no different to other lifeforms in the profund way that we are changing the planet. Early lifeforms created the oxygen atmosphere that paved the way for more complex organisms to develop. From our perspective that “dramatic adaptation” to the planet was a good thing as it increased the propensity of the planet to carry biomass.
We are biomass, everything that we enjoy in nature is biomass. Some types of biomass are a bit nasty and unpleasant to us, so we wage a war against many types, sometimes intentionally and sometimes unintentionally.
If the total level of biomass decreases because of human actions then we are undoubtedly harming our planet. Equally if the proportion of living biomass is increasingly taken up by human flesh and blood, then we are as much a danger to ourselves as to the planet.
Men may come and men may go, but the earth abides.

Look at it this way: what would it take to convince a person that CO2 wasn’t the cause of the late 20th century warming?
It’s the correlation between rising atmospheric CO2 levels and the unremarkable change in mean global temperature anomaly which really gave the hypothesis traction – and fair enough too, for it’s a hypothesis which certainly needs investigation. However, as CO2 has continued to rise, the temperature hasn’t played along and this has been true for the better part of 12 years. Simple as that. Reasonable people (strangely called ‘deniers’) are now asking the sensible question: if CO2 hasn’t caused temperatures to keep rising, then is it likely that the warming at the end of last century was caused by natural climatic forces, in exactly the same way that they’ve done before? In acknowledging the divergence between temperature and CO2, it’s really quite amazing to see the mental gymnastics employed by politicians and the well-meaning environmentalists to assure us all that CO2 is still, without doubt, the driving force behind climate. And this is all in the face of an increasing body of ‘Peer Reviewed TM’ scientific literature which puts paid to the AGW hypothesis. NOTE: the matter of man-made global warming should not be conflated with very real and pressing environmental issues such as huge spans of plastic in the oceans, deforestation, the fact that our resources are finite, air and water pollution etc…
In Australia, we have no nuclear power plants, instead relying predominately on coal. If AGW was a real threat to the world, then we’d be developing uranium and thorium technologies like madmen, as well as getting rid of all the petrol cars and replacing them with electric ones. Say, who killed the electric car? Get it?

I have suggested this before. The obvious good work you have done on scams in the markets has attracted to your site a very high concentration of smart people who smell a rat when there is one around.
You are insulting the intelligence of these people with this pushing of the AGW hysteria and agenda. We simply do not understand where you are coming from to this subject. Have you got any conflicts of interest? Do you receive any sort of financial support, sponsorship, etc., from anyone or any organisation that is a protagonist on this issue?

The ice cores appear, at first glance, a good indication that there is a natural cyclicity in CO2, CH4, O2, and Fe in the atmosphere. This is worth studying more carefully. Particularly if there is global warming on Mars (and perhaps other solar system planets), and increased solar output. I remain skeptical as to the cause. Carbon taxes seem to be a strong political desire to force every person on earth to submit to the global power structure. What else are these guys going to do, short of hoping for an alien invasion, to unify the people (under their rule of course).
I’m still skeptical about the cause and this is still a distraction from the real issue of globalization which is, in my opinion, a much more destructive force since it continues to exploit and oppress people through misdirection and threat.
The earth precesses every 26000 years. The ~104000 year periodicity in the ice core gas profiles may be a fourth harmonic resonance of this 26000 year cycle. This could explain the iron as well. Early earth life (several billion years ago) was composed of microbes full of iron. If my memory serves, this is why the Australian soils are reddish. Lots to check out. Don’t trust a majority of scientists – there are inevitably wrong.

Many people are attracted here because they love scams and conspiracy theories. It doesn’t make them intelligent. It does, however make them most likely to disagree with any kind of mainstream view and have their own conspiracy theory as to why it is false.

I don’t think that Max and Stacy are conspiracy theorists at all but are level headed and fairly open minded, intelligent people who decide on their view points through proper consideration (I hope this is true anyway!).
The fact that many people attach themselves to them because of an image of subversivism and conspiracy theorism is desperate and sad – they should get a life and a mind of their own too.
Regarding climate change, scientists are not as sure about climate change as non-scientists make out – every scientist worth their salt should have a healthy expectation of being wrong but still decide that a theory is likely correct, based on what they currently know and on current theory. Theories change as knowledge grows and scientists may change their minds at a later date and should be open minded enough to do so.
The media, action groups, political parties, big business etc etc are the ones who have simplified science and formed strong religious views on climate change, on both sides of the argument. These are the people using it as a scam – carbon credits for example – not the scientists. It happens in every walk of life, people take advantage of a situation, whatever it is, to personally benefit from it regardless of the consequences to others.
I feel that many people’s vehement beliefs that the whole thing is a scam are based solely on these opportunist schemes. It does not mean that the science or evidence for man made climate change is wrong in itself.

Founded in 1982, the World Resources Institute (WRI) describes itself as “an environmental think tank that goes beyond research to find practical ways to protect the earth and improve people’s lives.” Former Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) administrator Russell Train, who was the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Board Chairman and a Rockefeller Foundation Board member, was instrumental in securing $15 million in seed money from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, plus $10 million more from the Andrew K. Mellon Foundation and the Rockefeller Foundation, to launch WRI.
Other WRI founders include: ecologist George Woodwell, who established the Environmental Defense Fund and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC); physicist Murray Gell-Mann, a former Director of the MacArthur Foundation; and WRI’s first President, James Gustave Speth, who co-founded NRDC, was a member of Bill Clinton’s White House transition team, and now heads the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
WRI was meant to be “a major center for policy research and analysis addressed to global resource and environmental issues.” Its annual revenue is now nearly $20 million, and its assets total approximately $45 million, of which $34.9 million is invested in securities, according to recent IRS disclosures and WRI’s annual report. WRI boasts that it “has a staff of 150 professionals from more than 20 nations, connected to a network of advisors, collaborators, international fellows, and partner institutions in more than 50 countries.”
According to the WRI website, the organization’s objectives are to: “provide objective information and practical proposals for policy changes that will foster environmentally sound development”; and to combat “[t]he most serious of the world’s environmental threats — deforestation, desertification, and global climate change.” In order to accomplish the latter, WRI recommends that the U.S. cede environmental decision-making to the United Nations because environmental “challenges” are “more global in scope and international in implication.”
Much of WRI’s work has been geared toward addressing the alleged dangers of global warming, and the group urges U.S. acceptance of the Kyoto Protocol. WRI President Jonathan Lash, a former NRDC lawyer, has advised European governments on how to seduce Russia into implementing Kyoto in order to force U.S. acceptance of it.
WRI also collaborates biennially with the UNDP and the UN Environment Program to publish its “World Resources” reports. WRI claims these reports reach as many as 80,000 “government officials, academics, non-governmental organizations, [and] representatives of international institutions and industry,” as well as the media and other opinion-shapers around the world. Each report focuses on one environmental “problem,” which it exhaustively describes, and for which it then proposes a “solution.” These reports generally blame capitalism for many of the problems that plague humanity and the natural world. As the Capital Research Center explains, the WRI position is that “[t]he environment is degraded by a global ‘economic system that rewards exploitation’ and leads to ‘an inequitable distribution of property and power over natural resources … [P]rivatization often leads to greater public exclusion … since it shifts ownership — and therefore control — to corporations and other actors that do not have to answer to the general public.’”
WRI is also “leading the charge to politicize management education” with its Beyond Grey Pinstripes program, notes James Sheehan, an adjunct scholar at the Competitive Enterprise Institute. b. “[S]ocial planners believe business schools are ideal places to indoctrinate future managers and executives. By infusing MBA students with leftwing attitudes, these social planners envision a future corporate America devoid of scandal and committed to ideals other than profit.”
WRI’s Board of Directors includes former EPA administrator William D. Ruckelshaus, who was responsible for the 1972 DDT ban and had ties to the Environmental Defense Fund ; NRDC’s Frances Beinecke; and former Clinton administration Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman.
The tax-exempt WRI relies heavily on taxpayer-funded advocacy, receiving nearly one-fourth of its financing from the U.S. government. In recent years WRI has received an average of $2.7 million in annual government funding, with an all-time high topping $5 million in 1998. Its biggest government benefactor has been the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). According to the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI), WRI has used EPA global warming grants to help promote the Kyoto global warming treaty. According to the CEI’s James Sheehan, “The World Resources Institute was given $150,000 to demonstrate how the climate treaty would improve public health.” In addition to the EPA, WRI also receives financial backing from the Agriculture Department, the Department of Energy, the National Space and Aeronautics Association, and the State Department’s U.S. Agency for International Development.

Climate finance is the channeling of public resources towards developing countries for mitigation and adaptation efforts to respond to the causes and impacts of climate change through frameworks and mechanisms that are equitable, leverage private sector capital, and in line with national development goals.
Special drawing rights
“Special drawing rights” (SDRs) are “international reserve assets” issued by the IMF to member countries. The IMF uses SDRs as its monetary unit of account, and the value of the SDR is based on a mix of four foreign currencies, the U.S. dollar, the Euro, the Japanese Yen and the U.K. Pound sterling. SDRs were devised in 1969, during a shortage of both dollars and gold, but have been used most recently in response to the global financial and economic crisis. SDRs have the backing of the governments on IMF’s Board of Directors. Governments hold SDRs in reserve, and can convert them into hard currency through the IMF system. Unlike other programs at the IMF, no conditions are attached to SDRs. Governments eventually repay the SDRs with an adjustable, and usually quite low, interest rate. In effect, this provides countries with a low interest finance tool. The IMF has not used SDRs in this way since 1981, but in April 2009 the G20 began to consider reusing them after the UN Stiglitz Commission highlighted SDRs as a potential solution to the financial crisis.
In Copenhagen, George Soros suggested that SDRs could be used as a tool for climate finance. Under this system, climate SDRs would be available only for developing countries, and would also be established such that financing does not only occur in the form of loans (because of the principle that developing countries should not pay their own mitigation and adaptation costs).
Climate debt
Participants also discussed “climate debt,” a concept being spearheaded by Bolivia and many southern movements during the climate negotiations. Climate debt attempts to capture the full costs of climate change. It is based on the idea that each person has a right to an equal share of “carbon space,” and each country’s fair share is based on its population. Countries whose historical and continuing emissions exceed their fair share owe a debt to other countries. According to Bolivia’s calculation, Annex I countries only have rights to ¼ of the carbon space.
The climate debt concept can help to frame the parameters of any climate finance proposals going forward. As one participant explained, “Climate finance is not aid or assistance. It is an obligation, it is reparations.” As a result, climate finance should not come in the form of loans or other debt-creating instruments, and should not require developing countries to share the burden.
Civil society strategies for moving forward
A major goal of the strategy meeting was to determine the political feasibility of various climate finance proposals, identify time frames, and map opportunities for campaigning. Many participants agreed that by working towards a common vision, civil society organizations could have a greater influence on the climate finance debate. This strategy meeting was a first attempt to empower civil society organizations to cooperate in moving forward. As one participant explained, “It’s not a lack of will, it’s a lack of
political muscle.”
Creating public awareness and support
Most participants recognized the need to move the climate finance debate beyond the policy experts into the broader public. This will depend, however, on creating a successful narrative and messaging.
Many of the civil society organizations at the strategy meeting consider this a critical missing link.
Participants raised questions such as:
• Can we create a common narrative or vision that demystifies the climate change process?
• How can we link climate finance to job creation during the financial crisis?
• How can we build climate finance movements, and collaborate with other sectors, social campaigns, religious groups, and rights-based groups?
• How can northern civil society organizations support southern civil society organizations that wish to engage in the climate finance debate?

It is evident that the US (and others) has zero intention to meet it’s obligations to reduce pollution and so, due to US pollution volume, other countries who have taken the necessary steps to meet their targets have been completely wasting their time.
UN has zero interest in carbon capture and wants mirrors in the sky – soon.
Problem is that the mirrors will only help reduce solar radiation from entering our atmosphere whilst we (myself included) continue to increase carbon and many other pollution levels.
Utter chaos. This year the sun is reaching a cyclical 11 year high of sunspot activity which is warming the whole of our solar system, and due to our exponential pollution levels, it’s going to get rather hot. This then in turn will alter the relationship between the Gulf stream and Jet stream.

While you’ve been following the money, I was trying to dig up a less well-known Maurice Strong episode–how he and his wife Hannah claimed they were visited by intergalactic tax collectors in 1972 (or was it 1974?) and how they were charged with the task of imposing global taxes to pay these aliens, or some such thing. Anyone got a link? This was before the global freezing (and the later global warming) scares were orchestrated. Way back then, the Strongs were already in place to spearhead the taxes.

Many plants can utilize up to 3x more CO2 than amounts found in normal air. Ganga growers often add it to their grows indoors for a huge yield increase. Why are the plants able to utilize such a drastic increase? Because thy’re a descendant of plants that lived in an earth with a much larger amount of CO2. This new water is pushing down on the seabed and islands are sinking but the effect is not being felt at the shoreline. The glacial ice melted from all the nuclear fallout from atmospheric nuclear “tests”. This is why the global temp has not gotten hotter since the 90′s yet the ice is melting. Glad to see that PMF is supporting a movie about AGW. We are all aware of your opinions on this subject so I hope that presentation of the subject matter is not deliberately slanted in that way.
The blurb above stated that “its practitioners integrity is in question”. I hope that the reasons for skepticism of the scientists and their methods are given as much or more attention than the supporters viewpoints. This is to assure that final product has the full integrity it deserves.
I don’t think that this level of scrutiny can be properly presented in an hour and longer time frame should be considered.
I am curious to find out if the IPCC will honor FOI requests to thoroughly study the issue. After all, how can you support the science when you don’t have it in front of you?
