@ F. Beard, The reason Switzerland doesn’t get terrorism is because the population is armed & prepared. They have a summer camp military system , you can buy military grade assault rifles, (Modified to single shot) and most housing has some form of nuclear shelter.
All you have to do to confirm this is to check out the basements of almost any apartment building there. All the motorways have demolition charges on all bridges and tunnels. No serious invasion force could get equipment and men anywhere in such a mountainous terrain. I don’t understand why people are so defensive of Max’ comments about 9/11. He isn’t saying acts of terrorism are essentially good or that innocents deserve to die. He is clearly directing his speech toward the result of empire-building perpetrated by Uncle Sam. Whenever a country meddles in the affairs of others (especially when it causes wars and the deaths of these “others”) there will be repercussions. By being attacked, it shows that America is certainly building a global empire, and that will piss some people off. By being attacked, America has graduated from being that prick no one wants to invite over to dinner to being that force of evil that others are trying to stop. Think of your own analogies, but Max is right on target with this analysis. If you were a patriot for America before 9/11, you should really reconsider your patriotism now. Before America was the land of the free and home of the brave… now the land of the enslaved and home of an imperial iron fist against whom its own citizens are too cowardly to fight to restore its former glories. The new “glories” will rest on the backs of the impoverished American soldiers as they rape and pillage for no decipherable reason but bloody empire and resources for the wealthy.

To all the wishers about the end of America: America is not ending, sorry old chap, old Europe, and all the rusty hooks out there who wish differently.
Growth would help the economy, but it would also increase consumption and scarcity in other minerals. The cull de sac is more related to minerals than energy especially components in how we build, farm, manufacture; iron ore, copper, phosphate, etc, and non-finite resources, fresh water, food productions, which are negatively impacted by climate change.
On the liquid fuel front, algae technology has basically arrived; open air, salt water, carbon fed, processed with anti-freeze; however, we do not have the business or geopolitical strategies to develop major productions in spite of the fact that many of today’s exporting nations have ideal, warm weather locations. New Zealand’s technology, one of the most advanced, has identified over 30 elements on the critical element list for industry that can be recuperated from algae productions.
We are out of step with technology developments of new materials and consumption rates of reserves. In the interim we need fair systems or policies to prioritize resources; is it better to reserve helium for medical technologies or use it in balloons?
We also need fair policies to reduce global population to levels that better align consumption of resources to technological progress.
There is no place for war on a planet with peak everything, since today’s weapon would probably lead to the extinction of mankind, plus we do not have the resources to ever rebuild.
