@evolutis, using the whole planet as a single cognitive organism is certainly an interesting and powerful idea-extending the Gaia principle-the internet already does that of course. True galactic trading would certainly provide for an almost infinite growth, but the problem is that other possible life containing suns are over 20 light years away and more likely to be into the 100′s of light years distant. 10 billion years ago these same worlds would have been much closer(possibly allowing trade) -but due to an expanding (and quickening) universe we have the problem of getting there and catching up with them. True light speed travel would mean you arrive there almost instantaneously due to extreme time dilation but back in the real time outside observers such as your family and friends would be long dead. Unless we use worm holes to punch a hole through space or other such trickery to take a short cut then I don’t see how space commerce is possible.

BRUSSELS
Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has a lot on his mind these days, from cutting the defense budget to managing the drawdown of U.S. forces in Afghanistan. But his biggest worry is the growing possibility that Israel will attack Iran over the next few months.
Panetta believes there is a strong likelihood that Israel will strike Iran in April, May or June — before Iran enters what Israelis described as a “zone of immunity” to commence building a nuclear bomb. Very soon, the Israelis fear, the Iranians will have stored enough enriched uranium in deep underground facilities to make a weapon — and only the United States could then stop them militarily.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu doesn’t want to leave the fate of Israel dependent on American action, which would be triggered by intelligence that Iran is building a bomb, which it hasn’t done yet.
Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak may have signaled the prospect of an Israeli attack soon when he asked last month to postpone a planned U.S.-Israel military exercise that would culminate in a live-fire phase in May. Barak apologized that Israel couldn’t devote the resources to the annual exercise this spring.
President Obama and Panetta are said to have cautioned the Israelis that the United States opposes an attack, believing that it would derail an increasingly successful international economic sanctions program and other non-military efforts to stop Iran from crossing the threshold. But the White House hasn’t yet decided precisely how the United States would respond if the Israelis do attack.

LONDON – Gulfsands Petroleum PLC Thursday reversed course and said it is suspending exploration activities in Syria, only two days after announcing strong drilling results in the strife-ridden country.
Gulfsands, a U.K. minnow that has forcefully defended its Syrian business even as international pressure on Syria has grown, said the move to suspend exploration – while not technically required by EU sanctions – is “consistent with the intent of the sanctions.”
Brokerage Canaccord Genuity said the news of the Syrian exploration halt is “clearly worrying” and noted that a change to the situation is unlikely in the near-term, according to a note.
Canaccord also warned that although the company does have a healthy cash balance–over $120 million–and is focused on building a viable non-Syrian leg to its business, previous historic attempts at this haven’t been successful.
On Tuesday, Gulfsands said exploration on its Khurbet East 102 well could contain 19.2 million barrels of oil equivalent.
Separately, the firm Thursday noted that Chief Financial Officer Andrew Rose will step down from the board effective April 30 to pursue other interests.

The news that the Ugandan government has finally awarded the U.K. oil firm three production licenses brings “extra flexibility” to its balance sheet
Oil industry analysts welcomed news from U.K. firm Tullow Oil Friday that it had finally been awarded three production licenses by the Ugandan government, with some who follow the company suggesting that Tullow could double production during the next five years.
New production sharing agreements (PSAs) cover the EA-1 and Kanywataba licenses in the Lake Albert Rift Basin, while Tullow has also been awarded the Kingfisher production license.
Tullow watchers expect the deal to ultimately unlock $10 billion worth of investments, which include Uganda’s first refinery and a pipeline to the Indian Ocean, in the country’s nascent oil sector. Ugandan geologists have indicated that there could be as much as six billion barrels of oil in the country.
The deal takes any funding concerns that Tullow might have “off the table”, according to analysts at Bank of America Merrill Lynch.
“Crucially, closing the Uganda deal is key to [bringing] extra flexibility to the balance sheet, particularly as TLW has embarked on a US $2 billion capex program this year. Concerns over TLW funding position now prove completely overstated and we believe that this news should allow the market to focus on the strong fundamentals that the company offers,” said the investment bank.

ATLAS SHRUGGED – PART 1 … excellent
I watched the DVD-Film last night and was pleasantly surprised.
The fact that they made this film for ONLY $5 Million … an amazing feat.
The actors were excellent , and the story was well framed .
Obviously, there was a lot of detail missing that was in the book, but I think they did a great job of putting together a fast moving story that should capture the audience.
Part 2 has been announced – they start filming in April 2012 IIRC.
