    PS@I don’t understand why ALL artists just DO NOT RENEW their contracts and charge 1 EUR for a download .. they’d be far better off without these parasites IMO.

    You don’t need “Platform” to do this … just a PayPal payment followed by an EMail with a download link.

    i.e. any “Tom , Dick or Harry” can do it …. no expensive “expertise” required.

    We had a situation in Serbia not too long ago where the gov wanted to impose a 3% tax on all IT equipment that would go to the local RIAA (it’s called SOKOJ) because it is supposed that it will be used to illegally download and listen to music, and that is on top of the 18% VAT. The absurd thing was that this tax was going to be imposed even on things like printers and fridges (because all know printers and fridges can be used to download and play music!!!)! After the public outrage, which was lead by the Pirate Party of Serbia, and because it is an election year and no one wants to upset the voters, it was dropped.

    The copyright insanity is truly global and we all need to stand up against the copyright cartel.

    @GB … yes, a similar case in Germany with printers.

    Hewlett Packard took the Govt to court , claiming how ridiculous it was.
    IIRC , these people were the ones that wanted the law.

    From 2007 …. it says that the German High Court refused to do their bidding and showed HP to be correct .
    It also says … vorerst — which means “for now” , implying that VGWORT is not giving up yet.

    From what I know, a lot of the artists that sign to major record labels sign 6-album-contracts, and they can’t get out till they deliver 6 albums, unless they are dropped because of a lack of commercial success. And major labels put sell downloads through iTunes and the artists can’t change that. A lot of the small, independent artists do sell downloads on their own through Bandcamp or even give them away for free under Creative Commons licences. There is still a big market for CD sales, it generates $billions of income for major labels and they are not ready to let that go and neither are the consumers who like to own physical albums instead of downloads.

    The reality is that artists on major labels are getting fucked big time since they get to see only 1% of all sales and that is why more and more artists are going independent as soon as their contracts expire. Just look at Trent Reznor and Radiohead. They have each released two albums on their own and have made more money than with all of their albums for the majors together! So either the majors will drastically change their business models or they will very soon disappear completely!
