Wow, when I lived in the Montpelier area of Bristol we used a credit system called “Lets Points” or something. That was so long ago now. Looking forward to reading about the Bristol Pound…
…nice article. But then Montpelier was such a nice area apart from the Star and Garter pub. A den of iniquity, I tell you!
I once saw the owner with what looked like an untreated blunt-instrument injury to his head, yet he was cheerfully pulling pints. We left the pub and heard a woman weakly crying for help – looking up we saw the owner’s “partner” peeking from an upstairs window. She always appeared completely “out of it” but this was something new.
As two scared, geeky students we didn’t know what to do except call the police and stay well away from that place for fear of retribution. We should never have gone there – outsiders, out of our depth.

Find yourselves an organic little independant chicken farm if you can-the eggs are vastly superior and the birds are better looked after. I only pay £1.20 per half dozen (the more orange and thick the yolk the better the egg-the yellow slushy ones being the worst of course). Not so easy to find in central London but why not stock up and buy 5 dozen and get some decent meat while you’re out in the suburbs getting some fresh air somewhere)
