Andean glaciers loss of 30% to 50% and inherent fresh water supply are not only related to carbon excess, but to rates of consumption. In 1980 global population was approximately 3 billion plus, today 6.8. Therefore for the past 20 years we have historic stress on natural resources particularly fresh water, along with EXCESS CO2. Solar sails, carbon/methane sequestering, white roofs and white mountain tops are some of the technologies we have, but only if we adopt a global economic plan to address the inevitable energy transition from finite to renewable. Yes but these high altitude glaciers are disappearing because of a lack of humidity. The temperatures are the same as before. This is also happening in Africa. The cause is deforestation to make way for mono-crop industrial farming. It this which lowers the glacier ice content and it ‘s being happening for many decades. When you keep clearing forests the continents become drier.
So corporate eco-vandalism is causing this.

@curious Lemme get this straight. Your take on the most significant issue facing humanity is contingent on whether or not you think Max and Stacy are poopyheads.
“See, I’m not ever going to come around, nor would anyone, with that trash lingo. The art of persuasion is lost on the blathering bore though.”
So you would buy it if they were nicer to your ilk or something? I don’t get it.
BTW, I don’t think that the concerns re: warming are focused on whether or not Mother Nature will carry on. It’s quite clear that she will, in 1 way or another. The question is whether human civilization as it it currently constituted will be in her plans.
curious
@TheStone
Human civilization isn’t much without civility. Hence, Max should find efficacy in a more civil approach. (long standing advice I’ve been giving) But, to clarify it for you, I do not hang my opinion on anything anyone says. I’ve put my time in reading everything I can, and incorporate the best of it and toss out the trash. Why Max wants to be trash is his game. Ask him. He’s honestly doing the AGW crowd a huge disservice. I don’t accept the premise however for other reasons. Whether or not Max is nice is not going to change that. But it might for some.
I am in total agreement with you that, ’1 way or another’ nature will carry on. I think its up to us to worry about civilization (and Max’s input on germane subjects has been what has kept me around for so long despite HIS spiteful and hate-filled language – just look back). So, until Max realizes that the rest of the community he wants to belong to has been leaning away from vitriol and learns a little more about the “other” side of the debate (which no AGW-hater here has ever seemed to be able to demonstrate), I will continue to remind Max to be polite.

Amazing, really, how the clear and present danger of global warming and climate change has become so politicized (“I don’t like Al Gore’s socks” etc.) that there is no discussion of the real issues. Here we are steaming on the Titanic, arguing about the placement of deck chairs, or even denying the reality of that huge iceberg, dead ahead, and not taking any meaningful actions.
Global warming is a real physical danger to us all – it’s not some sort of bizarre plot – it’s actual reality – and it’s scary and is going to be hugely expensive – if we make it at all.
curious
@dlweld
The Titanic was probably the Olympic, her sister ship. Two words: insurance fraud. So, perhaps the AGW debate has more in common with titanic misdirection (the sinking was planned in advance of the voyage) as revealed in this persuasive historical analysis: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfPtDvm3a_s
It also a possible example, if true, how the entire world can be fooled by a plausible story. We still talk about sailing on the Titanic.
First, we should note the extraordinary inverted pyramid constructed atop the belief that fossil fuels are the main source of the annual increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide. The issues of temperature changes and sea-level rises, even the predicted spread of malaria and other tropical diseases, are no more than secondary or tertiary issues. Move further up our inverted pyramid and we find all the industrial research and development programmes, which range from the so-far unsuccessful attempts to sequester carbon dioxide –to extract it at great cost from emissions and bury it — to methane-free cows and alternative energy sources. Curiously, there appears no enthusiasm for nuclear energy, which is entirely carbon-free.
Moving even higher up the topsy-turvy pyramid, we come to the financially fertile fields of industry-assistance programmes, subsidies for grossly inefficient wind power developments and the like, and billions of dollars in taxpayer-backed loans and grants to renewable energy corporations – handouts distributed despite a near-total absence of documentary evidence attesting to the technologies’ viability.
We have now climbed to very top of the inverted pyramid, where we find a financial heaven for the bankers who buy and sell carbon “indulgences”, much as medieval pardoners once presented pig bones as the relics of saints and persuaded the gullible that purchasing them, or a written indulgence expiating past sins, represented the best hope of salvation. All the faithful had to do was hand over their cash.
There is no doubt with a structure of this sort that the upper-level inhabitants get a bit edgy whenever doubts are raised about the soundness of the foundations. After all, careers and funding are at risk, not to mention the asset value of pension funds, companies’ market capitalisations and bankers’ bonuses.

You may think that your interest is only bean-counting; however what do you do without energy and water, the basic elements of any financial paradigm? Who will energize this planet; irrigate production of food, which by the way you need to buy and with what in exchange?

The Carbon Disclosure Project:
“The CDP represents 655 institutional investors, with a combined $78 trillion under management.”
78 trillion tells us plenty about whose interest all this GW propaganda is really in. And, as some here have already said, why spoil a great website with this divisive subject?
“The enemy is clearly delineated: he is a perfect model of malice, a kind of amoral superman — sinister, ubiquitous, powerful, cruel, …The enemy wills, indeed, he manufactures, the mechanism of history, or tries to deflect the normal course of history in an evil way. He makes crises, starts runs on banks, causes depressions, manufactures disasters, and then enjoys and profits from the misery he has produced. The paranoid’s interpretation of history is distinctly personal: decisive events are not taken as part of the stream of history, but as the consequences of someone’s will. Very often, the enemy is held to possess some especially effective source of power: he controls the press; he has unlimited funds; he has a new secret for influencing the mind (brainwashing)…”
” Very often, the enemy is held to possess some especially effective source of power: he controls the press; he has unlimited funds; he has a new secret for influencing the mind (brainwashing)…” & “tries to deflect the normal course of history in an evil way”
The psychopath causes these. What is described is tertiary. But the psychopath is an odd human-domain dilemma. On the one hand, history is a play of actors, and those actors of particular mention are often our “undiagnosed” psychopaths, cast as leading role. Sometime hero, sometimes anti-hero.
an extremely short, improvised proposal in rebuttal to the paranoid view of history, opposed to the perspective that an un-affected stream of history exists; because a stochastic perspective of history will not suffice.
Sometimes, individual will has shaped human history.
The “paranoid” view of history is not unanchored to reality. There is a monster among us, whose aspect is normal in the sense that it is fully within the range of human genetic expression. The effects of their presence are manifold. The affect is felt in the gut.
The psychopathic “view” is contagious. A term, psycho-empathy, could be used to describe it. At the foundation it can be called ponerogenesis. A new term to express what has before been ‘inexpressible’ -hence the fallacy behind the idea of a ‘paranoid’ view of history.
That perspective is only possible by eliminating the possibility that psychopaths do not exist. Political psychopaths, successful psychopaths intrinsically.
But this is not the case. They do exist. Therefore, there could be reason to assume such historical actors, dressed in alternative guise, exist, and are influencers of our history and possibly shapers of our interpretations of it. And so such actors, imbued with charisma/charm etc, which do influence the minds of observers, for instance, can re-direct the ‘stream of history’ and even present novel means of hiding the fact.
Since the gut of many is hard to fool (there are many forms of proof of this), the last refuge of the psychopath is to suggest that they (or better, the psychopathic phenomenon) is not real or effectual, and that the gut is wrong.
Since this feeling, true after all, persists, the eventual expression, after all else is eliminated, is that some will is involved.
Evil is nothing more than the reality of this feeling.
Trust what you feel. None will be perfect… together we will be. Those that know what I’m imperfectly trying to describe will already understand; their impulse will naturally be to improve upon this expressive impulse; to better communicate an idea that previously could not be understood.
curious
I said improvised.
when I wrote “That perspective is only possible by eliminating the possibility that psychopaths do not exist” I really meant “That perspective is only possible by eliminating the possibility that psychopaths exist.”
Essentially, dismissal of such paranoid views of history is possibly if psychopathy is ignored.

Banks. Multi-nationals. You know, Max’s friends.

“In 2003 a groundbreaking historical genetics paper reported results which indicated that a substantial proportion of men in the world are direct line descendants of Genghis Khan.”
