AIG, Madoff, MF Global, The London Whale, Libor, CDS miselling, etc. etc. The City of London is the most competitive place on Earth for financial fraud. The EU would be wise to dump this pig.

    So the Mayor of London is owned by the City of London. Is this news?
    Boris likes to play the jovial baffoon but at core he is devious and manipulative like so many others. He no doubt plans to get his directorships and houours and may even become tory leader and PM. Things may be looking oh so rosy to him.
    It is a shame that there is a econonomic tornado on the way and Wall Street and the City will be right in the middle of this tornado alley.
    I suspect the boffoon will get blown away along with all the derivaties and dodgy deals.

    They do give something back Boris, their debt, and they’re very generous
    with it.
    BTW…Boris, in this biting time of austerity introduced by your government
    because of the 2008 banking crash caused by those wonderful City bankers you
    stoically defend, please define your version of “competitive”and its implications
    to the ordinary working man/woman…please, I’m all ears!

    What makes me mad is they are stopping the the EU 0.1% trading tax on the grounds it would be bad for the city. We pay 0.5% currently for stocks which is much higher!

    What they mean is the 0.01% tax on derivative trades would be bad for the city.

    Why should real asset holders pay 0.5% tax per trade when it was derivatives that cause this economic mess and they pay nothing!!!

    Johnson shows his true colours and backs the City. He is tipped as the next leader of the Conservatives so it gives a hint that he would put the City before the electorate which is precisely the reason why the Uk is in the state it is in. Curtailing bankers pay and bonuses is what is needed to discourage reckless gambling.

    Remembrancer

    The Remembrancer is one of the City of London Corporation’s Chief Officers and the role dates back to 1571. His traditional role is as the channel of communications between the Lord Mayor and the City of London Corporation on the one hand and the Sovereign, Royal Household and Parliament on the other. The Remembrancer is also the City’s Ceremonial Officer and Chief of Protocol.

    The Remembrancer’s department at the City of London Corporation is broken into three distinct branches of work – parliamentary, ceremonial and private events. The parliamentary office is responsible for looking after the City of London Corporation’s interests in Parliament with regard to all public legislation, while the ceremonial office’s objectives are to enable the Lord Mayor and City of London Corporation to welcome high profile visitors both domestically and internationally. Functions staged range from small receptions to major state dinners. Finally, the private events team co-ordinate the hiring of the Guildhall for private banquets, receptions or conferences.

    The current Remembrancer is Paul Double. He joined the City of London Corporation from the Bar and earlier government service. His recent work in Parliament has centred on the legislation to implement the changes to the City’s electoral system.

    The Common Serjeant of London is the second most senior permanent judge of the Central Criminal Court after the Recorder of London, acting as deputy to that office, and sitting as a judge in the trial of criminal offences.
