“In case you haven’t seen this, Dr. Abraham meticulously takes Monckton apart point by point.”

On this weeks TAM you mentioned the Monckton AGW deniers. Refer them to this:

http://www.stthomas.edu/engineering/jpabraham/

In case you haven’t seen this, Dr. Abraham meticulously takes Monckton apart point by point. It is so thorough that its almost indescribable. It deserves a “QED” on the final slide, which the professor must have forgotten to add in his rush to publish. Reserve a few hours to watch it, because it is about that long.

I am a geologist working a number of new mining projects here in the states. The biggest problem for each one of them is water supply, and one is within 50 miles of Lake Superior. Water will be fought over worldwide in our lifetime. Good call on Baikal.

Debunking Propaganda from the Big Carbon Taxers & Exposing the Big Oil Welfare Cheats

Scott Horton debunks the propaganda being spewed from the neo-conservatives who operate the most expensive welfare operation ever devised by man, financed through the highest carbon taxes anywhere in the world. Two trillion dollars per year alone in the US is collected in tax revenue, half of it goes directly to the military to secure oil reserves around the world, including next those of Iran:

And as if redistributing wealth from the taxpayer to their private carbon profits weren’t enough, BP, Halliburton and Transocean have been caught setting up yet another of their sleazy fake think tank / front groups, this time duping celebrities and housewives into agitating on their behalf to get the government to fork over more taxpayer money to clean up their oil spill.

And speaking of think tanks and front groups set up to scam the taxpayer, the Cato Institute’s Pat Michaels admits (at @7 minute mark) that 40% of the funding for his climate change denying comes from the very same hardcore welfare queens of the petroleum industry; the same petroleum industry, like Exxon, that imposes massive carbon taxes on all citizens unable to opt out of these taxes:

Record High Temperatures in Moscow But Apple Sauce Can Kill You & Some Women Might Prefer Small Babies

Each of the next five days in Moscow is forecasted to break the 1920 record high of 36.8 degrees (making that record broken about 15 times in one month):

So, why does Moscow matter?

Because both the believers in the theory of man made global warming, like the Economist, and the man made global warming deniers, like Putin’s administration, agreed that whatever the cause, Russia would benefit.

But thanks to the users on this site, I spent about 10-12 hours this weekend reading all the anti-global warming material I could find. One of the things I discovered was that a majority of the talking points on the subject originate from just a handful of ‘think tanks’ almost all of them funded at some point by Exxon and/or Koch. But that wasn’t the thing that interested me as it was to be expected, the bit that interested me was that many of the lobbyists at these ‘think tanks’ were veterans of Big Tobacco propaganda and lobbying. So I went over to Youtube to look for the infamous ‘nicotine is not addictive’ testimony; and I found these instead;

First, DENY there is scientific consensus:

Yes, those who have any scientific evidence that smoking may be harmful, are missionary zealots involved in a big hoax to force the world to stop smoking.

But what about the dangers?

Yes, applesauce can kill you; and it has been warmer one time in the distant pre-human past and it’s cold today in Topeka.

But what about when some of the data is just too overwhelming to deny? Well, here is Philip Morris, CEO, Joseph Cullman in 1971 on that one:

That’s right, smoking might cause smaller babies, but some women might prefer to have small babies. And yes, the greenhouse gas effect might cause global warming, but Russians will love global warming.

And, now, Russia’s economy is getting hit hard, something that is meant to only happen if something is done to stop global warming.

The sweltering summer has hit Russia’s economy, primarily agriculture, as the country rebounds from last year’s record 7.9 percent contraction. The government may spend more than the 5 billion rubles ($165.7 million) already earmarked to help the country rebuild from the fires, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said today in televised comments.

The government estimates that destroyed homes will cost an average of 2 million rubles each to replace, with another 1 million rubles to repair utilities and infrastructure, Putin said.

Anyway, so this is what I found from my research. I have only used google and wikipedia as a tool and also looked at the data available on the biggest think tanks in the climate skeptic space. I haven’t found any peer-reviewed research, most of the information fits into one of the above propaganda paradigms; but, as I know that most of the people on the site believe in what the tobacco guys are now selling us. But once a salesman, always a salesman, and sometimes salesmen have good things to sell, so I’d love to have some links to actual peer-reviewed scientific data that falls outside the paradigm of the above. I have only seen two and they both involve satellite data, but, in one case the scientist is rebutted by several more who disagree and in the other case, the satellite itself was shown to be at fault.

China’s World and Climate Clouds

Stacy Summary: These are two articles I read while getting my haircut this morning; the line I highlight in the second article is what I have maintained will probably sort out the problems in the first.   Most empires / new powers emerge with a new energy source.  It makes sense that the US, which became a superpower through oil will fight tooth and nail to preserve this.  But it makes zero sense for China to tie their future to an energy source that the US has and will continue to destroy to control.  Also, trying to solve the problem of energy will give China the home-grown technological knowledge that they will need if they want to become a serious global power.   So, two interesting reads, look forward to your thoughts . . .

The same principle explains the country’s overall drive to move ahead of the rest of the world: to make sure it gets a real say in setting its future rules and standards. It knows it can climb the economic ladder more easily in new and developing technologies than in traditional industries, and that’s why China, the world’s biggest polluter, has also become the single biggest state supporter of green technology. Thanks to massive government subsidies, it’s now a world leader in solar- and wind-energy hardware and is moving fast to set the standard in the next generation of clean-energy vehicles. Batteries made by the Chinese firm BYD are already used in at least a quarter of the world’s mobile-phone market; now the battery maker is leading the global race to adapt these batteries for cars, the biggest remaining hurdle in creating a viable market for electric and hybrid automobiles.
