Debunking Propaganda from the Big Carbon Taxers & Exposing the Big Oil Welfare Cheats

Scott Horton debunks the propaganda being spewed from the neo-conservatives who operate the most expensive welfare operation ever devised by man, financed through the highest carbon taxes anywhere in the world. Two trillion dollars per year alone in the US is collected in tax revenue, half of it goes directly to the military to secure oil reserves around the world, including next those of Iran:

And as if redistributing wealth from the taxpayer to their private carbon profits weren’t enough, BP, Halliburton and Transocean have been caught setting up yet another of their sleazy fake think tank / front groups, this time duping celebrities and housewives into agitating on their behalf to get the government to fork over more taxpayer money to clean up their oil spill.

And speaking of think tanks and front groups set up to scam the taxpayer, the Cato Institute’s Pat Michaels admits (at @7 minute mark) that 40% of the funding for his climate change denying comes from the very same hardcore welfare queens of the petroleum industry; the same petroleum industry, like Exxon, that imposes massive carbon taxes on all citizens unable to opt out of these taxes:

The Sunday Funnies: Meet the Only Man Between You and Al Gore’s Carbon Tyranny!

Ladies and gentlemen, I introduce you to Christopher Walter Monckton, 3rd Viscount Monckton of Brenchley. The right honourable demagogue of denial, the journalist most often referred to and linked to as the seeker of truth (click on link to find response from one of the few scientists that bothers to respond), defender of freedom from Al Gore:

Lord Christopher Monckton has long had pretensions to power as witnessed when he emailed a climate scientist stating:

“I am a member of the House of Lords, though without the right to sit or vote, and I have never suggested otherwise.”

To which the House of Lords Information Center advises:

Christopher Monckton is not and has never been a Member of the House of Lords. There is no such thing as a “non-voting” or “honorary” member.

Alas, as he was not and has never been a member of the House of Lords, the hereditary peer was free to proceed to seek power to protect the little people by running for a seat in the House of Commons as a candidate for UKIP. He promised his would-be constituents to free British schools from the tyranny of Al Gore by vowing to ban An Inconvenient Truth from all classrooms.  The Lord went on to get ZERO votes.  No, not one of his miserable, wretched and ungrateful would-be constituents dared to vote for the man who would defend them from Al Gore’s tyranny. Slaves, every one of them.

For, of tyranny, the good Lord knows a thing or two, as you can see here in this American Spectator article the good Lord penned himself in 1987:

“. . . there is only one way to stop AIDS. That is to screen the entire population regularly and to quarantine all carriers of the disease for life. Every member of the population should be blood-tested every month … all those found to be infected with the virus, even if only as carriers, should be isolated compulsorily, immediately, and permanently.”

Lord Monckton, in the article he wrote, envisioned that perhaps 3 million Americans would be quarantined for life under his plan and 30,000 of his own little Brits.  I do wonder if he is for banning Al Gore’s work in order to defend us from tyranny, would he not have been for banning oh say Tony Kushner’s work to protect us from those who would dare humanize the victims of AIDS our good Lord Monckton had caged in the US and UK?

Today, Lord Monckton says:

“the article was written at the very outset of the AIDS epidemic, and with 33 million people around the world now infected, the possibility of [quarantine] is laughable. It couldn’t work.”

“Couldn’t work” . . . ha ha ha; ohmygod, that’s soooo laughably funny! Look, I just read m’lord’s quote to Max:

But, m’lord, if say Halliburton were to make it possible that 33 million people could be quarantined . . . would your plan be ‘workable?’

UPDATE:  Lord Monckton was the sole ‘expert’ witness the Republicans called to testify at the May 6, 2010 Select Committee  hearing on “The Foundation on Climate Science”;  note that the Democrats had three scientists testify, not Al Gore and not David deRothschild.  I wonder if the Republicans were unable to get any scientists willing to testify under oath what Lord Monckton was happy to do in order to influence US national policy?  Perhaps they were unwilling to participate in another infamous moment ala:

Record High Temperatures in Moscow But Apple Sauce Can Kill You & Some Women Might Prefer Small Babies

Each of the next five days in Moscow is forecasted to break the 1920 record high of 36.8 degrees (making that record broken about 15 times in one month):

So, why does Moscow matter?

Because both the believers in the theory of man made global warming, like the Economist, and the man made global warming deniers, like Putin’s administration, agreed that whatever the cause, Russia would benefit.

But thanks to the users on this site, I spent about 10-12 hours this weekend reading all the anti-global warming material I could find. One of the things I discovered was that a majority of the talking points on the subject originate from just a handful of ‘think tanks’ almost all of them funded at some point by Exxon and/or Koch. But that wasn’t the thing that interested me as it was to be expected, the bit that interested me was that many of the lobbyists at these ‘think tanks’ were veterans of Big Tobacco propaganda and lobbying. So I went over to Youtube to look for the infamous ‘nicotine is not addictive’ testimony; and I found these instead;

First, DENY there is scientific consensus:

Yes, those who have any scientific evidence that smoking may be harmful, are missionary zealots involved in a big hoax to force the world to stop smoking.

But what about the dangers?

Yes, applesauce can kill you; and it has been warmer one time in the distant pre-human past and it’s cold today in Topeka.

But what about when some of the data is just too overwhelming to deny? Well, here is Philip Morris, CEO, Joseph Cullman in 1971 on that one:

That’s right, smoking might cause smaller babies, but some women might prefer to have small babies. And yes, the greenhouse gas effect might cause global warming, but Russians will love global warming.

And, now, Russia’s economy is getting hit hard, something that is meant to only happen if something is done to stop global warming.

The sweltering summer has hit Russia’s economy, primarily agriculture, as the country rebounds from last year’s record 7.9 percent contraction. The government may spend more than the 5 billion rubles ($165.7 million) already earmarked to help the country rebuild from the fires, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said today in televised comments.

The government estimates that destroyed homes will cost an average of 2 million rubles each to replace, with another 1 million rubles to repair utilities and infrastructure, Putin said.

Anyway, so this is what I found from my research. I have only used google and wikipedia as a tool and also looked at the data available on the biggest think tanks in the climate skeptic space. I haven’t found any peer-reviewed research, most of the information fits into one of the above propaganda paradigms; but, as I know that most of the people on the site believe in what the tobacco guys are now selling us. But once a salesman, always a salesman, and sometimes salesmen have good things to sell, so I’d love to have some links to actual peer-reviewed scientific data that falls outside the paradigm of the above. I have only seen two and they both involve satellite data, but, in one case the scientist is rebutted by several more who disagree and in the other case, the satellite itself was shown to be at fault.
