Stacy Summary: This is beyond bizarre. WTF? The leader of another country campaigning for one candidate? Why doesn’t Merkel go to Florida and campaign for say Gingrich? Seems like a desperate move on Sarkozy’s part as well as I just can’t imagine this playing well in France; Sarkozy’s competition in the first round is not Holland but Marie Le Pen and she is gaining rapidly on Sarkozy partly due to her fierce anti-euro / anti-European stance.

Stacy Summary: I’m having some serious flashback action here to the Bear Stearns and Lehman Bros weekend ‘rescues.’ And, from whom exactly are Europe’s central authorities borrowing the money . . . ?

The meeting started just after 3 p.m. and a press conference was scheduled for 6 p.m. Some officials said talks could last longer.

Stacy Summary: Arguments for maintaining the current Credit Default Swaps market argue that the ‘markets’ should be free. Strangely, the threat of a real market exchange on which to trade these instruments gets met with howls of rage. If the entire market as it is at present is mired with fraud and betting against what only what a few insiders know is hologram paper based on fictional exchange rates and fake assets, then I say bring in the prosecutors, the exchanges and the light of day.
