Got Gold?

Stacy Summary: A good day for those who haven’t been screeched out of their positions. I for one am hanging onto my gold and silver until these currencies finish their collapse. It doesn’t matter if they drop by 50% from here, at the end of a day in the not too distant future (perhaps this week in the case of the euro), all these currencies are going to ZERO. If I got screeched out of my position due to some anonymous screechers on youtube and the comments section, I’d be pretty pissed off, too . . .

Is GBP being hammered in response to investigation into Goldman? Don’t Bet on It

Stacy Summary:  There’s a war on.

Wow, down 1.5% 1.77% already. This is a pretty serious hammering.

Business Insider argues that a merely threatened Goldman investigation by the totally toothless joke of a regulatory body, the Financial Services Authority (FSA) could do that to the pound. I think this chart explains the pounds miserable fortunes this morning:

British Pound Tumbles Against Zimbabwe Dollar

Stacy Summary:  Yikes.  I can’t believe currency traders are even willing to make this trade.  Well, @Mike/Liverpool, perhaps your Thing of Beauty is coming soon.

Monday Morning Massacre, Pound Tumbles on Brown Poll

Stacy Summary: At least for today, sterling is tumbling. I wouldn’t get too excited @Mike/Liverpool, as tomorrow it will no doubt be the euro, or the dollar, or the rouble, or the real, or the baht, or the yen, or gold. (This is a jibber jabber thread, too.)

Jim Rogers denies saying pound will collapse

Stacy Summary:  The original article on this sounded strange because, obviously, Rogers is always quoted regarding his thoughts on currencies, and, of course,, any billionaire currency speculator’s pronouncements on any particular currency should probably be treated with caution; but I’ve never seen him say anything like, ‘any day now it will collapse.’  I wonder if the press release was issued by anyone that stood to gain on the sharp move on the pound (down almost .6 percent today).

He argues that European leaders will likely paper over Greece’s problems, which will provide short-term support to the common currency. Alternatively “Greece will go bankrupt.” If it does, according to Rogers, the euro should rally because investors will see that Europeans are serious about enforcing fiscal discipline on member states.

“Right now there are huge short positions in the euro,” Rogers said. “I like to see a lot of shorts. It’s always good to be on the opposite side of a popular trade.”

Dumb money piles into ‘screaming buys’

Stacy Summary:  Pension funds and institutional investors pile into sterling.  Oh boy.  These are the same passive investment funds that piled into CDO’s in 2006 & 2007 and oil in 2008.  They are a great contrarian signal, imo, as they are the ponzis to which all hedge funds and big banks sell to at the top.  The UK has no manufacturing base, much of its infrastructure is owned by foreigners and oil output is declining rapidly . . . that leaves money laundering and property speculation.  I think there are better ‘screaming buys’ out there.  What do you think?
